Great
news! Rock With A Reason
raised enough money to pay for Alcinei's operation. Thank you!
Here's the official word on what it's all about.
Rock With A Reason
A benefit concert in aid of Alcinei Da Gama Silva
with BOB, AIM, and The Fuzz
Saturday 15th October 2005
The Jurgens Centre, Englefield Green, Nr Egham,
TW20 0QR
When Dave Furzeland, drummer with the band 'BOB' visited Xixuau Reserve deep
in the Amazon earlier this year, he was touched by the story of Alcinei.
This young man, now 15 years old, was born with a benign tumour covering half
his face and neck. Two years ago the tumour grew so large it began to
suffocate him.
Dave's long-time friend Chris, who runs the reserve for the protection of the
local inhabitants, took Alcinei on the long journey to the San Paulo cancer
hospital where his life was saved by surgery to remove part of the tumour.
Now Alcinei can breathe, but the tumour is still growing and is now
threatening his sight. His family cannot begin to afford the journey to
the hospital, let alone pay for the operation. If Alcinei is to be able to
work, live and see he needs another operation to remove the rest of the tumour
from his face.
This operation costs under £2,000, not a lot of money by Western standards,
but unobtainable by Alcinei and his family in their remote village life.
Dave is now back in the UK and has organised this concert to help raise the
money needed to make the life they saved a life worth living.
The benefit concert will take place on Saturday 15th October 2005, and will
feature three live rock bands and an auction of pledges. Please give your
support.
To make a donation, offer a pledge, or to buy tickets for what promises to be
a truly rewarding evening, call Dave Furzeland on 01483 773 916.
